Planning Application Approved
Lewes District Council’s Planning Committee resolved to grant planning permission for the redevelopment of the Meridian Centre in April 2023, subject to a number of conditions.
Since the Committee decision, the Morrisons project team has been engaging with council officers to work through these conditions and confirm the Section 106 agreement, which is expected to be signed imminently.
Work is now underway to appoint a contractor to deliver the new store and wider development; details of the contractor will be shared once an appointment is made.
Co-op closure
The Co-op store has now closed, and the Co-op will hand control of the site to Morrisons on 28th February. Our managing agents will then be responsible for maintaining access, lighting, cleaning and security.
Access to Council and Library facilities will remain open, including via the rear car park entrance.
Demolition and Construction Programme
We envisage a two year programme and will confirm the phasing of works once the contractor has been appointed
Interim shopping provision
We are in discussions with two bus operators regarding a service to our Seaford store; we will update further once an agreement has been reached.
We will also provide a click and collect service for local residents to order shopping online and collect from the current site – we’re aiming to launch this in March.
